Includes bibliographical references and index.

This book explores Thailand's diverse sexual population, such as ""toms"" (masculine Thai lesbians), ""dees"" (feminine-identified women who have relations with other women), ""kathoeys"" (males that dress like women and wear make-up), or ""lady boys"" (transsexual or transvestite males). Thailand has one of the highest HIV infection rates in Asia, this book examines the needs of this population and suggests culturally sensitive intervention methods. Relating Thai customs and society to sexuality, the editors also reveal the emotional difficulties experienced by these individuals who live in a country often mistaken for a gay paradise."
